Further Forces Programme

Further Forces is an initiative designed to support service personnel preparing to leave or who have recently left the Armed Forces become further education (FE) trainers/teachers. The University of Portsmouth has been commissioned by the Education & Training Foundation to provide the Further Forces Programme, in collaboration with the University of Brighton. The Further Forces Programme is also supported by the Ministry of Defence and the Gatsby Charitable Foundation.

University of Portsmouth

The University of Portsmouth has been commissioned by the Education and Training Foundation to provide the Further Forces Programme, in collaboration with University of Brighton. The Further Forces Programme is also supported by the Ministry of Defence and the Gatsby Charitable Foundation. There is a high demand within the FE sector for skilled teachers, in particular within Science, Engineering and Technology but other vocational subjects are in demand too.  The Ministry of Defence is committed to supporting its service leavers make a successful transistion into civilian life. The intention of the Further Forces programme is to service both of these needs.  The Service leaver will be provided with high-quality training leading to a nationally recognised teaching qualification, accredited by the University of Portsmouth and a job working as a teacher in the FE sector.
